Perched high atop the Cascade complex, the Mother Armenia statue is an imposing and iconic figure overlooking Yerevan. More than just a monument, she represents peace through strength, a powerful symbol of Armenia's resilience and spirit. A visit here offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the majestic Mount Ararat in the distance, making it a must-see for any traveler. The statue replaced a monumental statue of Joseph Stalin in 1962. The change reflected the shifting political landscape and Armenia's desire to move beyond its Soviet past. Designed by sculptor Ara Harutyunyan, the 22-meter-tall copper statue depicts a woman holding a sword, symbolizing Armenia's readiness to defend itself. The pedestal beneath houses the Ministry of Defense's museum, showcasing exhibits related to the Nagorno-Karabakh War and other military history. Beyond the historical significance and stunning views, a visit to Mother Armenia offers a chance to reflect on the country's past and present.
